Maxwell Konnaris

I am a

Designing analytical approaches to improve rigor, reproducibility, and stability for biological data with the goal of improving analytical steps for drug design and development of diagnostic biomarkers that can be used to detect disease, cancer, and infection early.

About

Hey, I'm Maxwell. I'm a student at Penn State University in the Bioinformatics and Genomics PhD program.

Data Scientist

In my spare time, I like to understand financial markets and develop statistical approaches to evaluate/predict them. Hobbies: traveling, photography, athletics (soccer), performance training, and hip-hop/culture enthusiast.

Postbaccalaureate Researcher

2018 - 2022

Dr. Miguel Otero and Dr. Scott Rodeo Laboratories, Hospital for Special Surgery, New York, NY

  • Integrated clinical information and imaging analyses (Histology, Ultrasonography, and X-Ray) in Python. These studies aimed to use unsupervised clustering methods such as Agglomerative Hierarchical Clustering, K Means, and Gaussian Mixture) to identify patient subsets and develop precision medicine approaches. Implemented bootstrapping, heuristic assessment of models, generalized linear models, regularized models such as L1 and L2 penalization, and imputation strategies such as MICE and K nearest neighbors. Packages such as SKLearn and NbClust were used for analysis.
  • Assembled an immunocytochemistry image analysis pipeline using supervised machine learning approaches to count, segment, and classify the responses of human synovial fibroblasts to TGFb in vitro
  • Assisted in developing a deep learning pipeline in Python (Random forest and DCNN) to classify and segment histological images in QuPath
  • Wrote regulatory protocols for FDA compliance, handled medical device equipment and testing intraoperatively, and managed clinical trials for interventional cellular therapy clinical trial
  • Worked collaboratively in patient enrollment, data collection, and data analysis in multiple clinical studies
  • Processed human and murine tissue and cell samples and performed biological experimentation such as flow cytometry, ELISA, and primary cell culture
  • Contributed to the development, design, and budgeting of research projects and a technological spin off company called New York Testing Solutions, LLC
